Enrol your device
Pair the OnTrackio Agent running on your work computer with your account so the machine's hardware and installed-software details flow into the portal automatically and stay current. Pairing is a one-time identity step: you link an already-installed agent to you, and it keeps reporting on its own from then on.
You do this from My device at /my/agent, under the Account group in the My
portal sidebar. Most people finish in a single click; a manual code is there as a
fallback.
:::note Before you begin
- IT has installed the agent on your computer. Installing or removing it needs administrator rights you don't have — that's IT's job. This page only binds an installed agent to your identity.
- You're signed in to your workspace and can see My device in the sidebar.
- Your account isn't already paired with another computer. Each account pairs with one device at a time — if you have a new machine, ask IT to revoke the old pairing first. :::
Which pairing method to use
There are two ways to pair, and the agent picks the first one for you.
| Method | When it's used | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic (one click) | The default. The agent opens your browser to the pairing page itself. | Select Pair this device with my account once. No code to type. |
| Manual pairing code | A fallback for when the automatic method can't reach the agent — usually a strict firewall, antivirus, or endpoint-security tool. | Generate a code on My device and type it into the agent. |
Start with the automatic method. Fall back to the code only if it fails.
Pair automatically (recommended)
- On your computer, open the OnTrackio Agent tray icon and choose Pair with account. The agent opens your browser to the Pair this device page.
- On the Is this your laptop? card, check that the Hostname, Operating system, and CPU match the computer in front of you.
- Select Pair this device with my account.
The page shows Talking to the agent… for a moment, then Pairing sent. The agent appears as paired within a few seconds. Open My device to confirm.
The card spells out what the link means: once paired, this computer starts sending the information described in the transparency notice on My device to your organisation. For the full list of what the agent does and does not collect, see What data the agent collects.
If you already have a paired device, the Pair this device page warns you with the old computer's hostname and when it was last seen. Continuing replaces the old pairing with this one.
Pair with a manual code
Use this when the automatic method reports Couldn't reach the agent automatically, or when you'd rather type a code.
- Open My device at
/my/agent. - On the No device paired card, select Generate pairing code. The page switches to Pairing code waiting and shows the code.
- On your computer, open the OnTrackio Agent tray icon and choose Enter pairing code manually.
- Type the code into the agent and confirm.
The agent enrols and the My device page updates to show the paired device. If you need a fresh code — the old one lapsed, or you mistyped — select Regenerate code.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Code format | Starts with OT-, followed by six characters (for example, OT-7K3PQ2) |
| Validity | 10 minutes from when it's generated |
| Re-issuing | Generating or regenerating a code replaces any earlier unclaimed code |
On a loaner or a machine where the agent isn't installed yet, the Download the endpoint
agent card on My device offers the installer for macOS (.pkg) and Windows
(.msi), with the version, file size, and a SHA-256 checksum. Your own computer normally
receives the agent automatically through your IT team's device management, so you won't
usually need this. The card is hidden once you're paired.
Confirm your device is paired
After pairing, My device replaces the setup cards with a Paired device card marked Active. It reports:
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Hostname | The computer's network name |
| Operating system | macOS or Windows, with the version |
| Agent version | The version of the agent installed |
| Enrolled | When the pairing completed |
| Last seen | When the agent last checked in, or never if it hasn't yet |
Below it, the Installed software card lists the applications the agent last reported, with a count and a filter box, so you can review exactly what's shared. It stays empty until the agent's first daily report runs overnight — an empty list right after pairing is normal.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| Pair this device shows Couldn't reach the agent automatically | A firewall, antivirus, or endpoint-security tool blocked the connection. Use the visible code shown on that page with the manual method, or your agent's --pair-code option. |
| Your account is already paired with a device. | Each account pairs with one computer. Ask IT to revoke the old pairing, then pair this one. |
| The pairing link is malformed or expired | Re-open the pairing link from the OnTrackio Agent tray icon rather than reusing an old browser tab. |
| The code didn't work | Codes last 10 minutes. Select Regenerate code on My device and try again with the new code. |
| My device still says No device paired after you typed a code | Give it a few seconds and refresh. If it persists, regenerate the code and re-enter it; check the agent is running in the tray. |
| Installed software is empty after pairing | The first report runs overnight. The list fills in after the agent's first daily run. |
